(San José, Costa Rica, 1978)

Ignacio Quirós Salgado (San José, Costa Rica, 1978) is a visual artist who lives and works in San José. His artistic training began at an early age through private lessons with artists Héctor Burke and Nela Salgado. He holds a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Costa Rica.

His work has been exhibited in several group exhibitions, including Contaminación Cruzada at Espacio Sabático, 2020; Primera Colectiva deCERCA at Kalú, San José, 2019; Extraterritorial at 9/4’s, San José, 2018; Irreductible at C.R.A.C. Art, San José, and Sin Título at La ERRE, Guatemala, both in 2016; Más es Más at Galería Equilátero, 2015; and Mutismo at Galería Equilátero, 2014.

In his first solo exhibition, A la espera (In Waiting), Quirós examines an ongoing process and visual identity he has developed over the years, generating a latent tension between the image and the viewer. In his paintings, the depicted figures appear suspended, waiting for something that may never occur. These scenes often capture moments of stillness or introspection, where the characters seem frozen in time. Frequently, these representations suggest an emotional or psychological context without explicitly revealing either cause or resolution. This approach introduces an ambiguity open to multiple interpretations, depending on the subjectivity of the viewer, inviting them to project their own expectations and narratives onto the work.
