Nadya M. Aguilar (San José, Costa Rica, 1978) is a visual artist based in San José. She pursued studies in Visual Arts at Conservatorio Castella, at the National University of Costa Rica, and the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana, Cuba. She also holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Animation from the University Veritas.

Nadya conceives her painting as a living, pulsating entity that grows with every brushstroke and the energy drawn from within. She views her painting as an expression of her own life and growth, forming a close and vital relationship rooted in her meditation practice, a pivotal part of her creative process. The result is a pictorial realm of intricate, dynamic, and detailed forms, interwoven with a multitude of harmonious colors.

Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions such as “Como me lo contaron te lo cuento” at Galería Luz y Oficios, La Habana, 2000; “Triunvirato” at Jacob Karpio Galería, San José, 2000; “Quiero ser tu Héroe” at Galería Nacional, San José, 2002; and “Textos de Andar por Casa” at Galería Alternativa, San José, 2005. She has also participated in various group exhibitions, including “Lo que nos enseñaron, lo que aprendimos y lo que hicimos” at Galería Habana, La Habana, 2000; “Havana Nagila” at Galería Chelouse de arte contemporáneo, Tel Aviv, 2000; “Costas y Puertos Ricos” at TEOR/éTica, San José, 2000; “Puertos y Costas Ricas,” 2000; “Ex3” at the Museum of Art and Contemporary Design (MADC), San José, 2000; “Suspended Animation” at Silvana Fachini Gallery, Miami, 2003; “EVA, In the Border of Each Other,” Limerick, 2003; “Ciudad, Arte y Ciudadanía” at the Lanzarote Biennial, Lanzarote, 2003; “Bienal del Adriático,” San Benedetto del Tronto, 2004; “Estrategias para un juego, aún” at TEOR/éTica, San José, 2004; “Estrecho Dudoso” at TEOR/éTica, San José, Costa Rica, 2006; and “Inferno Tropical” at MADC in Vortic, 2021.

In 2000, she was awarded the Third Prize at the Central American Visual Arts Biennial. In 2010, she founded Interdimensional Studio; an independent animation studio specializing in original artistic content creation. She wrote, co-produced, and co-directed “El Cumpleaños Esotérico” (2015), the region’s first feature-length artistic and experimental animation film. Her animated projects have been showcased at prestigious international festivals, including the Annecy Animated Film Festival in France.
