deCERCA NOSARA is delighted to present the work of Costa Rican artist Paz Ulloa; the most recent recipient of the prestigious Francisco Amighetti Visual Art Award.
SOL features a selection of works from Centro del Sol, a series of works presented in February 2023 as an independent exhibition in San José.
While these works can be appreciated for their masterful use of color, line and texture, these selections are imbued with the artist’s desire to explore and express the notion of self; the self that is at the centre of the all energy, the SOL. The oppositional colors are visual representations of tension and resolution – the elegant lines of the table meet function and the brightest hues beautifully emanate from the deepest black.
The hallmark of Ulloa’s practice is her willingness to experiment in various me- diums, from painting and sculpture to video and performance. There is, however, a common theme that radiates through all of them; the tension that extends beyond the physical space and impels the viewer to consider a language that exists.
